Two conferences will be tackling issues of relevance to the International Year of Astronomy, 2009 this month.
The first will happen in Armagh, Ireland and will be the 9th European Symposium for the Protection of the Night Sky, tackling issues relating to light pollution, effects and mitigation. The conference will happen on the 17th-19th of September.
The second conference is New Worlds in Astroparticle Physics, taking place on the 8th-10th of September in Principe. This island is of interest as 90 years ago, Eddington measured the displacement of the apparent position of stars due to the curvature of space-time caused by the Sun’s mass. A special school for Portuguese speaking countries will also run alongside the conference. The conference poster is here (pdf).
