Fake Armstrong story gets unexpected launch…

The Onion is a satirical website and offline paper that produces amusing stories for people to read. A bit of fun. Unfortunately, in this age of blogs and twenty four hour media, bits of fun can sometimes be mistaken for reliable sources. And when two rival papers are in competition, taking each others’ words, this can mean stories get circulated with less than full checks on sources.

This is what happened when the Onion put on a tongue in cheek story saying Neil Armstrong had been convinced by a denier of the Moon landings that all his memories were fake. Two newspapers in Bangladesh, the New Nation and the Daily Manab picked it up and ran it as fact. Universe Today has the story here. Not a rival blog…
