Some Dark Skies links

The twitter account for the UK branch of the International Year of Astronomy, 2009, (@astronomy2009uk) has been sending messages from the 9th European Symposium for the Protection of the Night Sky. The conference, at Armagh Observatory, ran at the end of last week on the 17th-19th of September and involved airing a lot of issues relating to Light Pollution, its affects and mitigation.

Talks included:

Galloway Forest Park’s bid to be Europe’s 1st Dark Sky Park

Kim Patten talks about the International Dark-Sky Association

The effect of artificial lighting on Bats

Connie Walker talks about Globe at Night, the star counting, light pollution measuring citizen science project

IDA’s second Dark Sky Community, Borrego Springs, California

And Dan Hillier, talking about Dark Sky Discovery, aiming to bring astronomy to the masses
