Expedition 21 blasts off

The Soyuz TMA-16 carrying the people who will mark the start of Expedition 21 launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Wednesday. It carried with it two new crew members of the International Space Station and one space tourist, Guy Laliberté, founder of Cirque du Soleil and the first clown in space (no unkind comments about past astronauts, please…). On the 6th of October, the nine people on board the ISS will hold a thirty minute press conference and four days later, Expedition 21 will commence with Frank De Winne of ESA taking command of the station. All will be broadcast live on NASA TV. Images have been posted to NASA’s Flickr account and video to their Youtube Channel:
