The International Year of Astronomy, 2009 has come to the parliaments of Spain and Iran.
In Madrid on the 29th of September, the Senate arranged a music, dance and image show called Revising the Planets, music provided by the Atlantic Art Ensemble Band. After midnight, observations were made on the Senate roof by students of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. A webcam was hooked into the eyepiece and images of the observation were beamed down to large screens in the Plaza de la Marina Española whilst jazz music was played by the Cantaloupe Jazz Quartet. Meanwhile in Iran, a From Earth to the Universe photographic exhibition of thirty celestial bodies and twenty Iranian landmarks against starry backgrounds has entered the Iranian parliament. Inducted by the “Father of Modern Astronomy in Iran”, Professor Yousef Sobuti in the presence of the chairman of the Iranian parliament, Ali Larijani, members of the parliament and professional astronomers, the idea for the exhibition came from Dr. Sadollah Nassiri Gheydari.
