Science and the wow! culture…

By which I don’t mean the ‘wow!’ signal or any related subcultures…

After logging on to twitter today, three tweets came at me from different sides, directing me to three websites all of which were on the same theme – the problem of turning hard science into soundbites as the media would like versus publishing hard science as scientists would like. The first link is a clip from the Armstrong and Miller show (Miller is a former physicist) that illustrates the fight:

The second is essentially the media view of what would happen if science was published as the scientists would like.

The third and final link is to someone worried about the effect of the media’s concentration on the wow factor – Driveby Culture.
