UK Space Agency to be launched on Tuesday

Lord Drayson (who tweets here) has announced that the UK Space Agency is to be launched on Tuesday. I wonder whether this decision will distract him/the news from the debate on the Future of Physics to be held in parliament on the same day? Cynicism aside, it will be a chance for everyone to see what the set-up looks like and alongside the results of the debate, give a firm idea on space policy as it presently stands.

The most interesting discussions on this will no doubt be the analysis of the community in the days following the announcement, when scientists get their hands on the figures and structures and compare them with the present situation and potential ways of resolving the current problems. Hopefully, things on the parliamentary side won’t be entirely like this characterisation, although that at least does indicate some recognition of the scientific contribution to the economy…
