More Apollo 13 stuff

It is forty years since Houston received the news that they had a problem. NASA (who tweet here) have put up the story of Apollo 13 as well as an interactive website to illustrate things.

Universe Today continues its series of 13 things that save Apollo 13 over 13 days with The Hatch that Wouldn’t Close.

The surviving two crewmembers Jim Lovell and Fred Haise have called on all Americans to save the budget for manned space exploration, as the Times reports. As it also reports, today is not just forty years since events unfolded on that mission, it is forty nine years since Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space (celebrated in Yuri’s Night, annually) and twenty eight years since the launch of the space shuttle.

Also popping into view is an app for the iPhone by Buzz Aldrin, also known for an Apollo mission of some renown. It is called the Buzz Aldrin Portal to Science and Space Exploration.
