The American Association of Variable Star Observers has its 99th Spring meeting going on at the moment. This weekend at the North East Astronomy forum in America, Mike Simonsen will be giving a talk introducing people to variable stars.
Finally, a request for observations of interest to those to the south has been issued. A luminous blue variable among the brightest in the Large Magellanic Cloud is undergoing an episode of dimming. This has been preceded by an increase in H-alpha flux and so a multi-spectral photometric campaign is requested. Basically, they want to know how bright it is at different wavelengths and how this is changing. It’s a complex beast and one they want to get a handle on.
