Odd exhibits in the Zoo

There’s a new blog up on the forums of the citizen science project Galaxy Zoo. In it, user Stellar190 highlights an Object Of The Week from the forums. These objects are things highlighted by users of the project as odd things they’ve been asked to classify in the images that aren’t obviously galaxies, but aren’t obviously anything else. It was this highlighting process that enabled Galaxy Zoo to discover the class of objects known as Voorwerpjes as well as the class of galaxies known as the Green peas. Some of the objects are quite familiar to the team asked to look at them, maybe a nearby planetary nebula or even a bright star or moving object whose image in the red, green and blue plates that are taken separately and then added together to form a full colour image might not overlap correctly. Here’s a bright star doing just that.
