Big things this weekend…

The day has dawned on which the Rosetta probe will flyby the asteroid Lutetia on its way to the main mission of orbiting a comet. How long remains until the event itself? Check out this countdown and distance estimate.

But tomorrow, the 11th of July, holds a special significance for some – those that have got tickets to some of the more remote parts of the planet, like Easter Island. The total solar eclipse will be last one to occur until November 2012 and will be viewed by professional eclipse chasers like this guy as well as more general astrophotographers (perhaps of the ilk of this guy) among the estimated 4,000 visitors to Easter Island.
