Anatomy of a patch

What does this picture represent?

It is the mission patch for Robonaut 2’s trip to the International Space Station and every thing on there is loaded with intentional symbolic meaning. Some, like the image of the Robonaut itself and the ISS, are obvious, but what about the rest. This was set as a challenge by the Robonaut twitter feed and responses suggest the following:

Stars on the map of the USA represent Detroit and Houston, the partnership between NASA and General Motors having built the Robonaut 2. There are seven stars aligned as groups of 1, 3 and 3, representing the shuttle mission STS-133, which will take up the R2. The Sun represents the dawn of the new age of robotics on the station.
